Hair loss treatment is one of the hottest topics in aesthetics, and while the vast majority of treatments simply don’t work, the team at Long Island Dermatology is excited to announce an effective new procedure that can help with just that – Keralase!

What is Keralase?
Keralase is one of the newest and most innovative treatments to help both men and women to improve the health of their scalp, and regrow their hair while strengthening hair follicles. Using the specialized Lutronic LaseMD ultra laser, Keralase allows patients to avoid the use of traditional microneedling hair treatments that are often hit or miss – and helps to deliver a proprietary blend of growth factors and skin proteins (specifically the KeraFactor® serum) to the scalp, helping to stimulate hair growth. The specialized peptides within the serum work to help support an increased blood supply and the transition of resting hairs into the actively growing phase of hair growth.

How Does Keralase Work?
Not only does Keralase help to stimulate the growth of previously dormant hair follicles, but it helps to improve the overall health and wellness of the scalp. One of the main functions of this is to stimulate damaged and weakened hair follicles to help thinning hair to grow far thicker and stronger. Rather than using traditional microneedling rollers, the LaseMD ultra laser works to create non-ablative micro-channels to deliver a proprietary blend of growth factors and skin proteins (KeraFactor® serum) to stimulate hair growth. The micro-channels have been shown to create 5 times higher absorption of nano-liposomes, increasing the delivery of the nano-liposomes found in the KeraFactor® Serum. The peptides within the serum specifically support increased blood supply and the transition of resting hairs into the actively growing phase of hair growth for optimal results.

Is Keralase Right for You?
Whether you are a man or woman, experiencing thinning or lost hair – whether it might be due to hormonal, environmental, or physiological factors, like stress – Keralase is likely the perfect hair treatment for you! plus, Keralase has also been shown to be an effective method for individuals who are either undergoing a hair transplant, have already had one, or are in the midst of some other method of hair loss treatment such as Rogaine or other laser hair growth methods.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?
When it comes to Keralase, according to other patients and for best results, it is recommended that patients have the Keralase treatments done once every 2 weeks. A total of 6 treatments is recommended, for a total of three months minimum. Although in some patients the results from a treatment are seen immediately, in most patients they will appear gradually during 3-5 treatments. A maintenance in-office treatment every 1-3 months is also encouraged. In many instances, it is also recommended to combine these treatments with period KeraFactor spray treatments.

During and After Treatment
Patients should expect the Keralase treatment to last anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the amount of coverage they need. The laser will generally feel like a warm, tingling sensation, and is often said to be fairly relaxing. Once that is complete, the serum needs to be properly massaged into the scalp for best results. Patients should allow the scalp and hair to fully absorb the solution and spray before applying heat. It is recommended that patients do not use a hairdryer within an hour of receiving the treatment or applying the spray. You can use hair styling products as soon as the product is absorbed, and your hair/scalp has dried. Lastly, after treatment, it is recommended that you wait at least 6-12 hours before washing your hair.
