At Long Island Dermatology, to help patients to treat and exfoliate their skin, we offer a wide range of spa facials and chemical peels. Exfoliation, both manual and chemical, is one of the most important aspects of a healthy skincare routine. Our facials and peels are ideal for patients of all skin types, tones, and textures. For patients suffering from skincare issues, like wrinkles, fine lines, active acne, acne scarring, and more – chemical peels and facials are the most effective and versatile, non-invasive treatment methods around.
Peel Away Dead, Dull Skin
It’s important to understand that the skin’s outermost layer is mostly composed of old, dead, dull skin cells. These dead skin cells will cause the skin to appear far less healthy, and vibrant – often leading to other issues such as clogged pores, excessive oil production, bacteria buildup, acne, and much more. By exfoliating the skin, we are able to remove this outer layer of dead, unwanted skin, and reveal the inner, more lively, vibrant skin that lies beneath.
Customized for Your Needs
Before your treatment, we will perform a careful and thorough skincare analysis to help determine what your specific skin care needs might be. Once we determine your specific issues, we offer a number of different facials and peel options.
What are Chemical Peels?
A chemical peel is a form of chemical exfoliation that can be applied to the skin’s surface, in order to remove the outermost layers of dull, dead skin. Over time, following the procedure, the skin will typically grow back far smoother, softer, and more supple – with fewer blemishes and unwanted issues.
Chemical peels use a number of different ingredients and compounds, and the main ingredient is generally some type of acid. They are often divided into categories based on the strength or concentration of the acid, such as light or medium chemical peels, which use a lower concentration of acid, and deep chemical peels which use a much higher concentration of acid.
What Do Chemical Peels & Facials Treat?
Chemical peels and facials can treat a wide variety of different skincare issues, including things like wrinkles, hyperpigmentation or discolorations, acne scarring, blemishes and much more.
The different concentrations of the acid, and the ingredients that the chemical peel includes, will determine what issues are treated and how effective it will be. These peels penetrate the skin at different depths. Light or medium chemical peels are much more superficial and work to treat more surface issues, while a high intensity or deep chemical peel, using a much higher concentration acid, will penetrate much deeper into the skin, and alleviate far more severe skincare issues – however, its important to understand that they also take longer to recover from.
